Out of the control cabinet: ELCO brings the controller directly to the machine

Großbottwar (Germany), 5 November 2026 – ELCO Industrie Automation GmbH is presenting its new IP67 IO-Link PLC, available now, at SPS 2026 in Nuremberg (24–26 November, Hall 10.0, Stand 331). Until now, machine builders have typically needed two devices for decentralised automation: an IO-Link module and a separate controller. ELCO combines both in one rugged IP67 device – saving space and cost. In total, the IP67 IO-Link PLC brings together six functions: CODESYS PLC, Industrial Ethernet communication, IO-Link master, motion controller, RS485 interface and an integrated web HMI. This enables machine builders to implement decentralised automation solutions directly in the field – without a separate control cabinet for control and communication.
Control and communication in IP67
At the heart of the IP67 IO-Link PLC is a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor running at 1.2 GHz per core. Application programs have 16 MB of program memory, 2 MB for custom variables and 128 kB of non-volatile memory at their disposal. Programming is done in CODESYS. The main Ethernet port supports PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT and Modbus TCP, so the module can be integrated into all common control environments.
Four IO-Link ports and two I/O ports, each with two digital inputs and outputs, connect sensors and actuators directly. A separate motion control port drives servo drives, while the RS485 interface with Modbus RTU and ASCII connects devices such as RFID systems, weighing stations or other controllers.
Operate and monitor in the browser
An integrated web server with CODESYS WebVisu makes the machine accessible from any HTML5 browser – via HTTP or encrypted via HTTPS, and for up to 32 simultaneous users. The PLC also works with virtually any Modbus TCP HMI. An integrated OPC UA server provides machine data to higher-level systems and IIoT applications.
Part of a complete decentralised system
The IP67 IO-Link PLC is the centrepiece of ELCO's decentralised automation system. The system also includes cascadable IO-Link hubs, multi-protocol IO-Link masters, valve systems, decentralised frequency inverters with IO-Link master ports and a broad range of sensors, encoders and M8/M12 connectivity. Customers get the complete automation of a machine from a single source.
“With the FCEN-4LKM-8A-M-PLC, we are bringing the controller directly to the machine: the compact IP67 PLC combines CODESYS programming, four IO-Link master ports and EtherCAT motion control for up to 16 axes at a 4 ms bus cycle in a rugged metal housing. OPC UA, MQTT and WebVisu connect local automation with higher-level systems and browser-based visualisation.
