Greif-Velox and CHG-MERIDIAN Enable Flexible Access to Industrial Packaging Technology
The partners combine industrial packaging equipment, service solutions and individually tailored rental models. This gives companies financial flexibility and enables them to align their packaging capacities more reliably with their business development.
Lübeck, 27.10.2026 (PresseBox) - Greif-Velox Maschinenfabrik GmbH and CHG-MERIDIAN are expanding their collaboration in the field of Packaging as a Service (PaaS®). Together, they combine industrial packaging technology, technical services and flexible rental models into an integrated offering. This enables companies to expand or modernize their packaging capacities without having to purchase the equipment outright. Contract terms, payment rates and service components are tailored to each customer's financial circumstances and projected business development.
Combining Two Areas of Expertise in an Integrated Service Model
With Packaging as a Service (PaaS®), Greif-Velox enables companies to use industrial packaging equipment without having to purchase it outright. The model combines the provision of equipment with packaging materials, maintenance, spare parts supply and consumables. CHG-MERIDIAN complements this offering with individually structured rental models featuring suitable contract terms, payment schedules and contractual conditions. Customers benefit from a coordinated overall solution covering equipment, ongoing operations and financial planning.
The responsibilities of the two partners are clearly defined: Greif-Velox is responsible for the packaging technology, technical system integration and associated services. CHG-MERIDIAN contributes its expertise in structuring rental agreements, enabling contractual models that reflect customers' financial circumstances.
Rather than treating packaging equipment as a standalone purchase, the technology, agreed services and appropriate rental model are planned together from the outset. This allows companies to establish or modernize the packaging capacity they need without having to purchase the equipment outright or coordinate all the individual services separately.
"For our customers, it is not just about which machine they use, but how reliably and cost-effectively their entire packaging process operates. Together with CHG-MERIDIAN, we can combine the technical implementation and operational support of packaging systems with flexible usage models. This gives companies access to all essential service components within one coordinated overall concept," explains Sebastian Pohl, Managing Director of Greif-Velox.
Flexible Contract Structures Aligned with Business Development
A key aspect of the collaboration is the ability to adapt contract durations and payment structures to different business situations. Particularly when establishing new production capacities, introducing new products or entering additional markets, capacity utilization and revenues often increase gradually.
The rental models can take these developments into account. For example, lower payments during the initial ramp-up phase can be combined with higher payments later as production utilization increases. Different contract durations and scopes of service can also be incorporated into the agreement. The specific structure depends on the equipment used, the scope of services and the customer's business model.
"Companies need financial flexibility, especially when they are building new capacities or their production utilization is still developing. With individually structured rental models, we can better align the financial burden with each customer's business development. The key is to ensure that contract durations and payment structures match the customer's economic requirements," says Dirk Matura, Managing Director of CHG-MERIDIAN Industrial Solutions GmbH.
Step-up Rental Model and Pay-per-Use as Flexible Contract Options
Two examples from the collaboration with CHG-MERIDIAN illustrate how rental models can be adapted to different financial requirements: a step-up rental model with gradually increasing payments and a usage-based pay-per-use model.
With a step-up rental model, monthly payments can initially be lower during the ramp-up phase of a new production facility. As capacity utilization and revenues increase, payments are adjusted accordingly. Depending on the contractual agreement, an additional higher payment can be scheduled at the end of the term. This allows payments to be more closely aligned with projected business development. For companies establishing new production capacities or entering additional markets, this can make it easier to get started.
TThe pay-per-use model takes a different approach. Usage-dependent components can be incorporated into the contractual structure, for example based on consumption, operating hours or defined production volumes. Looking ahead, this creates opportunities to align certain cost components more closely with the actual utilization of the packaging equipment.
Both approaches demonstrate how CHG-MERIDIAN's expertise in developing customized rental models complements Greif-Velox's existing PaaS® offering. While technical services and ongoing support for the packaging equipment remain part of the integrated service concept, contract durations, payment rates and other contractual conditions can be tailored to each customer's specific business requirements. The precise contractual structure depends on factors including the equipment, contract duration, scope of services and financial requirements.
Preserving Liquidity and Reducing Operational Risks
Cashflow Optimization
For industrial companies, combining packaging technology with a rental model offers particular advantages in liquidity planning. Instead of a substantial upfront investment, companies make predictable, contractually agreed payments. This keeps capital available for other operational needs.
Operational Risk Mitigation
Unlike a conventional machinery purchase, the integrated concept also includes essential services for ongoing operations. Depending on the agreed scope of services, these may include maintenance, technical support, spare and wear parts, and the supply of suitable packaging materials.
PaaS® therefore addresses not only financial risks but also operational risks. Unplanned downtime, unavailable spare parts or poorly coordinated service processes can significantly affect the cost-effectiveness of a packaging system. The coordinated provision of the necessary services is intended to help reduce these risks and support high equipment availability.
Performance and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
To support this, Greif-Velox uses digital remote maintenance, preventive maintenance measures and demand-based spare parts management, among other services. These are part of the company's existing service concept and can be integrated into the respective PaaS® package.
More Than Conventional Leasing
The main difference compared with a conventional leasing model lies in the scope of services provided. While traditional leasing primarily governs the use of a machine, Packaging as a Service combines equipment provision with technical and organizational support for the packaging process.
For companies, this means they do not have to coordinate all service, maintenance and procurement activities separately. Instead, the relevant components are brought together in a coordinated model.
This also changes the financial perspective compared with a conventional machinery purchase. Rather than focusing primarily on the purchase price, greater emphasis is placed on ongoing costs for equipment use, operation, maintenance and material supply, as well as equipment availability.
Depending on the contractual structure and applicable accounting standards, the models may also have different implications for financial reporting. Whether a particular arrangement can be structured to minimize its balance sheet impact must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Planning Packaging Operations for Long-Term Cost Efficiency
One application of the PaaS® concept is the bagging of ultra-light powders using Greif-Velox's VeloVac vacuum technology. In demanding packaging processes such as these, cost-effectiveness depends on more than the machine itself. Compatible packaging materials, technical support, spare parts availability and logistics also play an essential role.
The collaboration with CHG-MERIDIAN expands the financial options available within this integrated approach. Companies can consider technical performance requirements and the structure of the rental model together, rather than planning the machinery purchase and ongoing equipment operation separately.
Looking ahead, the concept also offers opportunities to further develop usage models by incorporating more consumption- or volume-based components. The decisive factor remains the individual alignment with operational requirements.
Greif-Velox and CHG-MERIDIAN thus offer interested companies a practical alternative to purchasing machinery outright. Customers can use the packaging equipment they need, supported by coordinated services and an individually structured rental model. This enables them to establish new packaging capacities or modernize existing ones without having to pay the full purchase price upfront.
