Rheinmetall supplies replacement components for mobile air start units to the US Navy
Düsseldorf, 04.09.2026 (PresseBox) - Rheinmetall Canada is supplying the US Navy with spare parts for MSU-200NAV air start units . The contract, awarded by the US Department of Defence to the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), is valued in the single-digit millions of euros. Delivery is scheduled for between the end of 2026 and the end of 2028.
The MSU-200NAV is used by the US Navy to start aircraft engines both on land and on board ships. Rheinmetall Canada will supply spare parts for two key components: the starter, which initiates turbine operation, and the Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system. The latter controls the turbine’s power output, sequence control and safety.
Designed for reliability, efficiency, and long-term availability, the MSU features a proven turbine-based design, making it suitable for worldwide deployment. It has proven itself under a wide variety of climatic conditions and is characterised by its ease of operation and maintenance.
Thanks to its compact dimensions and low weight, the MSU can also be airlifted to forward operating bases. It thus provides armed forces with a flexible solution for mobile aircraft ground support.
Rheinmetall has extensive technical expertise in aircraft ground support and a proven track record of providing reliable solutions to the US armed forces and its allies, as well as civilian customers.
Rheinmetall Canada carries out the development, modernisation and maintenance of the MSUs from its site in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. This helps to ensure the long-term availability of this vital aircraft ground support capability.
The Canadian Commercial Corporation enables Canadian companies to supply 'Made in Canada' solutions to the US armed forces. This contract highlights Rheinmetall’s role as a reliable defence sector partner while strengthening the creation of Canadian industrial value in critical ground support technologies.
