Wiesbaden, 04.05.2026 (PresseBox) - After approximately two years of construction, Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH officially inaugurated its new HOSTAPHAN™ polyester film line at the Wiesbaden Industrial Park on April 29, 2026. During an official inauguration ceremony, the company welcomed the president of the parent company, Manabu Chikumoto, along with numerous customers, local political representatives, and employees at the site.

Back in October 2021, the parent company, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, had announced plans to expand polyester film production capacity at the Wiesbaden site. With five production sites in Germany, the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, and China, the Mitsubishi Polyester Film Group ranks among the world’s leading manufacturers of polyester film.

With an investment volume of more than 100 million euros, the new line increases production capacity by 27,000 tons per year. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, it is one of the most advanced facilities of its kind worldwide. An integrated heat recovery system enables particularly energy-efficient production and contributes to reducing the company’s CO₂ emissions. In addition, the direct use of recycled plastic material (post-consumer recycled material) derived from polyester films already in use at the customer’s site enables a seamless return to the production cycle, thereby supporting the implementation of a sustainable circular economy. Highly automated roll packaging and the use of robotics further reduce the workload on employees.

During the opening ceremony, which included a tour of the new facility and the symbolic cutting of the red ribbon, Manabu Chikumoto, CEO of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group as well as Wiesbaden Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, among others, addressed the guests with welcoming remarks. It was particularly emphasized that with this investment, Mitsubishi Polyester Film is strengthening the Hesse location in the long term and securing and further expanding approximately 560 jobs.

Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH produces high-quality and innovative polyester films for a wide range of applications at a total of four facilities in Wiesbaden, including for the automotive sector, electric vehicle batteries, furniture surfaces, medical applications such as transdermal patches or diagnostic strips, and security features in banknotes.
