The Spirit of Speed team arrived in Finland on 12 January, days before the first guests touch the ice.
No engines.
No applause.
Just frozen forests, perfect ice… and a team building everything from scratch.
This is what happens before Spirit of Speed begins…
The arena is ready – smooth, glassy, and exactly what guests dream of every year.
But getting here takes work most people never see.
Ladders in deep snow.
Banners frozen stiff.
Lights wrapped around trees in sub-zero temperatures.
Long days. Short daylight. No shortcuts.
SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY
Every rope tied, every banner aligned, every detail checked – not for show, but because precision matters on ice.
WE LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE… NOT EVEN ICE
What you’re looking at isn’t just frozen water.
These tracks take months and months to build … long before the first guest arrives, long before the first engine starts.
Every winter, the team studies:
Ice thickness, density, and fracture behaviorWind direction and snow loadTemperature cycles, not daily, but weekly and seasonalGrip levels at different speeds, angles, and braking loads
The ice is grown, measured, tested, and reshaped until it behaves exactly as intended.
Because on ice, nothing is left to chance.
WHY THIS TAKES MONTHS (AND WHY IT MATTERS)
Anyone can put cones on ice.
What takes months is creating a place where:
Fear turns into focus
Loss of control becomes understanding
And confidence is earned… not forced
The goal isn’t to scare you.
The goal is to build an environment so well prepared, so deeply thought through, that you feel safe enough to go further than you ever have before.
That’s the magic.
And it only happens when preparation becomes obsession.
THIS IS WHY THE TEAM ARRIVES EARLY
By the time guests arrive, this place already knows them.
The ice has been tested.
The systems have been rehearsed.
The team has already worked through every “what if.”
So when a guest asks,
“Can I push a little more?”
The answer is yes.
Because the work was done long before the question was asked.
