ATIX AG Releases orcharhino 7.8 with Ubuntu 26.04 Support, Improved Provisioning, and New Generic Compute Resource Plugin
Munich, 28.04.2026 (PresseBox) - ATIX AG announces the release of orcharhino 7.8. With this version, the platform has been further developed with a focus on operating system support, provisioning workflows, and automation. In addition to the integration of Ubuntu 26.04 as a newly supported distribution, the focus is primarily on improvements in host provisioning, which lead to more consistent and reliable deployment across various virtualization platforms.
Furthermore, orcharhino 7.8 introduces new integration approaches: The generic OpenTofu Compute Resource Plugin simplifies the integration of additional infrastructure providers. The feature is initially available as a Technology Preview and addresses the growing demand for flexible, standardized automation and infrastructure integration.
Support for Ubuntu 26.04
orcharhino 7.8 introduces support for Ubuntu 26.04. Administrators can register and manage hosts based on this version. The packages provided and tested at the time of release are based on the beta version and will be updated for the final version of Ubuntu 26.04 as needed. This allows environments to be prepared and tested early on.
Improvements to Boot Disk Provisioning
Boot disk provisioning has been revised in orcharhino 7.8 to ensure more consistent behavior across all supported compute resources.
A key improvement concerns VMware environments: ISO images used during provisioning are automatically removed once the process is complete. This prevents unnecessary storage space from being occupied on the VMware side.
In addition, the workflow for re-provisioning (Build Mode) has been adjusted. Hosts can now only be placed into Build Mode if they are powered off. This prevents inconsistent behavior between different compute resources and increases reliability when re-provisioning systems.
Tech Preview: OpenTofu based Compute Resource Plugin with Hetzner Cloud Support
With orcharhino 7.8, a generic compute resource plugin based on OpenTofu (Terraform) is being introduced for the first time. It is available as a Technology Preview. Instead of developing a separate plugin for each provider, orcharhino now uses OpenTofu providers from the OpenTofu Registry. This allows new compute resources to be integrated much faster and in a more standardized manner. Initially, the OpenTofu provider for Hetzner Cloud will be made available. Additional providers—such as Nutanix—are expected to follow in future versions.
For users, this approach provides greater flexibility in selecting infrastructure platforms and faster access to new integrations.
