Herisau, 26.01.2026 (PresseBox) - China restricted antimony exports as early as 2024. As a result, the price has risen from around US$15,000 to more than US$60,000 per ton of antimony.

This is significant in that China controls about 70 percent of the antimony market. Antimony is important in the defense sector and is also a key raw material in the semiconductor sector for AI-supported memory. Antimony is a component in explosives, sensors, and fire retardants, and is also found in night vision devices and ammunition. Companies such as Airbus, for example, urgently need antimony as a flame retardant for aircraft wiring and interior trim. Incidentally, the raw material is also present in batteries.

It is a strategically critical raw material for Canada, the US, and the EU. Since dependence on China for antimony is frowned upon, especially in times of rising defense spending, projects in other countries are all the more in demand. Further increases in antimony prices would therefore come as no surprise. Experts are already predicting Western supply shortages for antimony. Russia is not really an option as a potential supplier either due to various sanctions.

Antimony, a silver-gray, toxic, and rare semi-metal, and the companies that own it in their projects should therefore have an exciting future ahead of them. It appears that the arms race has only just begun, and the future technologies that require this semi-metal are also growing.

GoldMining - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/goldmining-inc/ - has large gold and copper projects in North and South America. The 100% company-owned Crucero project in Peru has significant antimony mineralization in addition to gold.

Southern Cross Gold Consolidated - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/southern-cross-gold-consolidated-ltd/ - owns the Sunday Creek project in Australia. It contains gold and antimony. The Australian government has also recognized the importance of antimony and is supporting the creation of a reserve.
