Trends in ultra-precision optical surface engineering - Manufacturing methods and applications
4rd International Summer School from 03. – 07. September 2018
Leipzig, 15.06.2018 (PresseBox) - Modern optical surfaces for high-end applications such as semiconductor lithography, laser, X-ray radiation, telescopes or space-based optical systems require utmost accuracy of surface form, waviness and roughness. At the same time, the large variety of complex surface forms demand for highly deterministic machining processes.
Precision shape cutting technologies like diamond turning, as well particle beam-based technologies like ion beam, plasma and laser machining methods provide unique features for ultra-precision surface engineering on the atomic height scale.
The application of these emerging technologies for optical surface fabrication allows to target surface features on the nanometer scale. An interdisciplinary approach to the ultra-precision technologies makes this summer school a valuable event for students of engineering and natural sciences.
The summer school will cover the following topics:
Ion beam based technologies for ultra-precision optics manufacturing
Plasma based technologies for ultra-precision surface machining
Ultra-precision cutting technology
Fabrication, measurement and application of X-ray optics
Modern trends in optical manufacturing
We welcome applications from those engaged in natural sciences and engineering research. There will be 40 places available for international students, PhD students or any people interested in ultra-precision engineering.
The school will be conducted in English language. It will feature interactive elements and the opportunity for attendees to network with our speakers, thus a fair standard of comprehension and of spoken English is essential.
Registration is open until July 20, 2018.
