With renewed strength, advancing powertrain & battery technologies for diverse mobility and future-critical sectors

Nuertingen, 02.10.2025 (PresseBox) - With a strong focus on technological excellence, proven development and testing capabilities, and rapid implementation, hofer powertrain is aligning itself firmly with the future. Customers in mobility and other demanding sectors benefit from reliable technological foundations and streamlined processes backed by more than 40 years of engineering expertise. Today, hofer powertrain is ideally positioned to support customers’ most challenging projects and to deliver global programs with maximum efficiency, precision, and technical expertise.

New leadership, new energy

A new generation is stepping up to lead: Lawrence Lamar HOFER, son of the company’s founder, now directs business development and, together with local partner teams, oversees series production programs in China. His work in recent years has made a decisive contribution to the successful industrialization of advanced powertrain products.

Andrea LAUSSER, a business executive with strong technical affinity, start-up experience, and proven international leadership, assumed responsibility for company-wide processes earlier this year – with a clear focus on lean structures and customer proximity.

“Our customers show us every day that trust and speed are more important than ever – and that motivates us to continue moving forward with full commitment. For our customers, the streamlined company structure provides even greater stability and quality in projects. Our goal is to strengthen our customers where it matters most – with proven technology, reliable results, and implementation speed enabled by short decision-making paths,” says Andrea LAUSSER.

With strong demand from the mobility industry and a growing number of projects in marine, aerospace, and demanding off-highway applications, the specialized divisions of hofer powertrain cover the entire value chain of modern powertrain and battery systems. What sets hofer powertrain apart from other players on the market is the seamless integration of end-to-end development, testing, validation, functional safety, industrialization and series support.

Full value chain in the development and validation of modern battery systems

Under the management of Martin MAIER and Lars ILLGEN, together with the departmental leadership of David WOLLSCHLAEGER and Tobias SCHMID, hofer powertrain has consolidated its expertise in advanced battery systems. The focus is on development and concept design for a wide range of mobility and energy infrastructure applications, with capabilities extending all the way to small-series production. Core requirements such as fast-charging capability, high energy density, and long service life are at the forefront – with both established and innovative cell formats being utilized.

A particular unique feature is the comprehensive battery testing capability and growing facility at the Nuertingen site: here, battery systems are tested from the single cell to the complete pack on state-of-the-art test benches for the worlds most renowned customers. The testing facility is continuously expanded and modernized and makes a decisive contribution to the development of high-performance, safe, and sustainable energy storage solutions for modern vehicle architectures.

“Every day, our teams are fully committed to ensuring the highest quality and unmatched implementation speed with complete schedule reliability. Our customers value this dependability – and it is the reason why follow-up projects emerge,” emphasize David WOLLSCHLÄGER and Tobias SCHMID.

From concept to series validation of modern powertrain technologies

Patrick VIKARI and his teams drive some of the industry’s most demanding development and validation programs for electric drives and hybrid applications worldwide. Equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art test benches for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and off-highway systems, the department provides comprehensive testing capability across the full spectrum of applications. Decades of experience with international testing and validation standards ensure that requirements from the first prototype to full series production are met with precision, speed, and proven reliability.

Advanced electronics and software development

Under the leadership of Klaus WAWRA and Markus SCHNABLER, the electronics and software divisions develop systems and software solutions that meet the latest standards and enable modern architectures and applications. Supported by the business development expertise of Thomas KRANNER and the strong software development competence of Martin KERN, the teams drive the implementation of complex projects with high momentum and set new benchmarks in the industry.

Vehicle safety for the next generation of vehicles

No advanced mobility system can succeed without uncompromising vehicle safety. To ensure that, Sven EURICH and Stefan APPELSMEIER head a specialist unit that anchors hofer powertrain’s contribution to vehicle safety. This unit prepares and adapts vehicles and components for critical testing programs, spanning crash and sled trials, structural evaluations, component modifications, and advanced 3D measurement. These capabilities not only provide the foundation for reliable, safety-critical validation but also ensure that leading automotive manufacturers and other mobility brands can advance the next generation of vehicle safety and occupant protection with confidence.

Strong focus on global presence and expansion for a growing number of customers

hofer powertrain delivers projects with its lean structure throughout Europe, China, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Demand for comprehensive development and testing services, as well as turnkey solutions for modern mobility applications, is increasing – particularly in battery technology, power electronics, and testing and validation. To meet these requirements quickly, hofer powertrain is planning targeted expansion of its international presence and the establishment of additional partnerships. When asked about the company’s future, Andrea LAUSSER did not rule out the option of a future initial public offering (IPO).
